Define the ferrous melting duty
This furnace melts prepared ferrous charge rather than forming the final billet or rolled section. Identify the intended steel or iron and describe the scrap or other charge entering the furnace. State the required molten-metal destination, such as a casting operation, so that the melting duty has a defined end point.
Choose a batch configuration, not a family-wide promise
The equipment includes a furnace body with associated power and control components. Review the selected configuration and the conditions supporting its batch requirement. Keep charge mass, operating cycle and downstream production targets separate. A general description of the furnace family should not be used to assign one cycle or power requirement to every size.
Connect the melt to the next operation
Discuss the discharge method, receiving vessel or casting equipment and the space needed for the proposed handover. The electrical supply, cooling circuit and controls must be described alongside that arrangement. If continuous casting is planned, identify how molten steel will be delivered and which responsibilities belong to the furnace package, the caster and site installation.

Before you decide
Does choosing a furnace also define the billet production line?
No. The furnace supplies molten metal; the caster has its own billet, flow, cooling and handling requirements. Their interface should be agreed as a connected process.
What is needed to select a batch configuration?
Identify the metal, charge form and condition, required batch and production pattern. Add site supply and the receiving process so the proposed arrangement can be defined.
